Objectives and Standards
- Understand what the atomic orbitals look like and be able to draw them on an x and y axis.
- Write an electron configuration and draw an Aufbau Diagram for electron orbitals.
- Understand how electrons and the generation of light are related.
- Understand how light moves and the history of how it was discovered.
- Use the electromagnetic spectrum to relate light and energy.
- Use the equations for light and energy to determine types of waves and their properties.
Electrons and Light
When electrons move from shell to shell they produce light. In this chapter we will learn how electrons fill into an atom, how they generate light, and how they were discovered. You have probably heard of the electromagnetic spectrum, however; you probably didn't know that it was directly related to electrons in an atom.
